Miami partner Cody German and associate Erika Agosto obtained a $1.45m jury verdict in favor of their client in a defamation case for a client. Their client is a successful Brazilian businessman who was subject to years of videos on YouTube that placed him in a false and harmful light. The Defendants were individuals connected to their client’s competitor and former business partner. The weeklong jury trial had many challenges including the fact that the defamatory content was primarily in Portuguese.
The verdict came back after a week of trial and was $250,000 above what Cody and Erika asked the jury to award. The verdict included punitive damages as well.
It is anticipated that this verdict in favor of our CSK client will be one of the largest defamation awards nationwide for 2023.
