Summary Judgment – Medical Malpractice

Ft. Lauderdale partner, Jami Gursky obtained final summary judgment in a medical malpractice case that arose out of an inpatient suicide at a psychiatric hospital. Ms. Gursky defended the psychiatrist who performed the initial psychiatric evaluation just two days before the patient’s death. Plaintiff claimed that the psychiatrist failed to recognize the patient’s high risk of suicide and appropriately treat the patient. Summary judgment was granted because the psychiatrist did not breach the applicable standard of care or contribute to the patient’s death.
