West Palm Beach Managing Partners Barry Postman and Jonathan Vine, and Partner Sheena Maldonado secured a complete defense verdict in a challenging five-day jury trial held in Federal Court in Ft. Pierce, FL.
The case involved allegations of legal malpractice against the defendant lawyer, who was accused of failing to file a UCC lien on behalf of the Plaintiff concerning multiple convertible promissory notes. Initially, the Plaintiff claimed damages exceeding $16 million, which was later reduced to $2.75 million following a directed verdict.
Before the trial commenced, the insurance carrier representing our client proposed a settlement offer of $675,000 and indicated a willingness to pay approximately $1 million. In contrast, the Plaintiff's legal team lowered their demand to $2.2 million.
After 1 hour and 45 minutes of deliberation, including a lunch break, the jury returned with a defense verdict, marking a successful conclusion to this high-stakes litigation.
Special thanks to Associate Jeremy Goldstein, Paralegal Rebecca Miller, and Legal Assistant Leslie Vargo for their invaluable assistance during this complex trial. Their contributions were instrumental in achieving this favorable outcome.
