Orlando Partners Carita Skinner and Scott Shelton recently received a very favorable verdict in Volusia County (Deland) against a well-known plaintiff firm.
Plaintiff was a disabled female who was rear-ended by our client. She was treated at the emergency room the same day with severe neck and back pain and underwent a CT scan to her neck. She followed up with several other doctors who provided multiple injections to her neck and back. Plaintiff’s neurosurgeon also recommended Plaintiff undergo neck surgery. Defendant admitted liability for the subject incident but contested the cause of Plaintiff’s alleged injuries. Plaintiff requested over $500,000 during closing.
After approximately 2.5 hours of deliberations, the jury returned a verdict of approximately $11,000 which was just over one of the options suggested by the defense.
