Janae Mouton was a prominent member of the H.T. Smith Black Law Student Association, contributing actively to its initiatives and programs. Prior to her second year of law school, Ms. Mouton gained valuable practical experience through an internship with the Honorable Hugh D. Hayes (now retired) at the 20th Judicial Circuit of Florida.
Ms. Mouton was also a participant on the Negotiation and Mediation Team, where she honed her skills in conflict resolution and strategic negotiation. In addition to these roles, Ms. Mouton served as a teaching assistant for Legal Skills and Values at Florida International University College of Law, where she supported the development of essential legal writing skills among her peers.
Ms. Mouton's exceptional aptitude in courtroom procedures and advocacy was recognized through the receipt of the CALI Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy. Further demonstrating her leadership and commitment, Ms. Mouton held the position of Vice President of Intramural Competition for Moot Court, where she was instrumental in preparing the Intramural Competition Problem and overseeing internal moot court events and competitions. Ms. Mouton also represented the FIU Law at the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition in Boston, showcasing her prowess in appellate advocacy.
