Justin Maya is a partner working out of the Miami office. He advises on intellectual property, business law, and entertainment matters, in both transactional and litigation.
Justin is adept at forming IP strategies and identifying IP issues in the digital world – including copyright, trademark, trade secrets, and deceptive practices – raised by technology, e-commerce, and social media transactions. Justin’s practice covers transactional IP work such as licensing (particularly trademark licensing agreements) and advises on corporate transactions and restructuring/reorganizations. Within his skill range, he acts as counsel to entertainment-related clientele in the areas of television, music, digital media and social media.
Alongside his transactional work, Justin’s litigation practice covers intellectual property disputes involving trademark, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair and deceptive trade practices, and a wide variety of corporate, business, and contractual disputes, both externally (like, business-to-business or professional liability) and internally (such as officer and director liability, business reorganization, and employment disputes).
Through Justin’s unique experience as a talent agent with an entertainment and business conglomerate, Debonair, Justin has acquired valuable insight into the business decision-making process of international brands and the ability to advise entertainment clients on strategic partnerships. Justin also brings a blend of military to the firm, having served as an intelligence analyst in the United States Marines.
Justin earned his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Florida State University and his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Florida International University College of Law where he focused his study in intellectual property law.
