Overview

Mariestela Somarriba is an associate in our Miami office where she dedicates her practice to general litigation with a focus on Medical Malpractice claims.

Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Ms. Somarriba graduated from Florida International University's Honors College with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Psychology and a Pre-Law Certificate, Summa Cum Laude. She earned her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center.

While attending law school Ms. Somarriba developed a keen interest in technology and its legal implications. As a Student Attorney in Georgetown's Communications & Technology Law Clinic, she contributed to constitutional litigation cases involving surveillance technologies and Fourth Amendment rights. Her internships at the Federal Trade Commission and Prudential Financial, Inc. further honed her expertise in emerging tech issues, including artificial intelligence, privacy laws, and online consumer protection. As Secretary and later Admissions & Diversity Chair of the Latin American Law Student Association (LALSA), she organized events that united diverse student bodies and fostered discussions on the intersection of technology and law.

Inspired by her parents and grandparents, Ms. Somarriba has prioritized empowering her communities from a young age. Notably, in law school, she provided 55 hours of pro bono service as a translator for Spanish-speaking asylum seekers at Georgetown's Center for Applied Legal Studies. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted traditional learning, she stepped up as a Community Circle Leader, guiding fellow students through the challenges of virtual law school. As LALSA's Admissions & Diversity Chair, she championed inclusivity and connected Hispanic law students across 17 schools as the HNBA Law Student Division's Region 5 Representative. Today, she continues her community involvement by hosting wellness events with ModernOM Inc. This unwavering commitment to empowering others and building strong communities remains a cornerstone of Ms. Somarriba's professional and personal life.

Ms. Somarriba is licensed to practice law in the State of Florida and the District of Columbia.
